Wine trip to Geogria
Trip to Georgia: Touring and Tasting Georgia
8 Days: choose your travel dates
With over 500 indigenous grape varieties and 8,000 years of uninterrupted winemaking history, it’s no surprise that Georgia makes exciting wines. However, wine there is rarely just about what’s in the glass. A Supra, a traditional Georgian feast, is crucial, as is Qvevri, an egg-shaped earthenware vessel used for making, aging and storing the wine. Marani, Georgian wine cellar, is considered the holiest place in the home.
Wine, in general, is a revered feature of Georgian social life. Hence, a glass of wine is raised in celebration of all significant rites of passage, from birth and birthday to homecoming, weddings, and funerals. The best way to experience this strong, underlying spiritual theme and to enjoy traditional Qvevri wines is to visit its secret birthplace, Georgia.
