Baia's & Gvanca's Wine
Baia and her younger siblings: Gvantsa (Sister) and Giorgi (Brother), are the first to bottle and market their wine professionally. They are thus part of a new development in the Georgian winemaking world, in which an increasing number of young female winemakers are continuing and expanding the craft of their previous generation.
The siblings spent a happy childhood watching how parents and grandparents were involved in the diverse winemaking processes. They were also encouraged to arrange their own small farms with vineyards, greens, household animals, and plantations and spend their free time exploring the wonders of nature.
After graduating from college, Baia moved to the capital city of Tbilisi to continue her studies. However, she did not find the intense urban life exciting. So after graduating from Agronomical University, she returned to her small town of Obcha, where she has been actively promoting the wines of Imereti and growing her family's winery.
Baia's passion has always been to create a sustainable vineyard and to learn everything possible about a wine-making process that reflected nature's own process. Within that mission, her younger sister Gvantsa traveled to Mosel, Germany, as an intern at one of the best biodynamic wineries to obtain knowledge and a deep dive into the magic process of making organic wine.
In 2015, Abuladze's family business participated in the local agricultural startup competition and won a GEL 5000 (about USD 2,000) to buy a used wine bottling machine to increase production and quality. At the same time, Baia officially established a new wine company, and the label Baia's Wine was born. The grant helped Baia to bottle a higher standard wine, but she could not afford to buy a car to deliver those first bottles to the capital Tbilisi. With her siblings' help, she would carry them by train and deliver them to each distribution channel by Tbilisi public transport. The hard work and passion have not gone unnoticed, and those bottles became a massive success: restaurants and wine bars ordered more bottles immediately, and customers gave great feedback.
In 2019 Baia appeared as Forbes Art&Culture 30 under 30 and became a continues inspiration for a generation of young producers full of talents.
