Natenadze's Wine Cellar - ნათენაძის ღვინის მარანი
Giorgi Natenadze's Cellar is located in Akhaltsikhe, Georgia, and focuses on restoring and propagating Meskhetian vine varieties, which were destroyed by the four centuries of Ottoman occupation of Georgia.
"I have spent much of the past decade traipsing through mountain forests in search of ancient vines growing the way nature intended — up trees. So far, I have uncovered 40 rare grape varieties in the woods in the south of Georgia, near the border with Turkey, and have identified 24 of them. I found some vines that are more than 100 years old and one that I reckon is even more than 400 years old. Each year I make a different wine from these ancient varieties at Natenadze's Wine Cellar in the Meskheti region-" Giorgi Natenadze.
Natenadze grows his own grapes on the size of 3 (ha). All grapes are harvested manually.
